Hampton Court Ghost

Article from DAILY MAIL - UK

By David Harding, Metro
19 December 2003

To the sceptic it may simply look like a fuzzy CCTV image of someone in a long coat walking through a doorway.
Experts say the long-coated figure could be the best proof yet found that things really do go bump in the night... and the day too.
The mystery surfaced two months ago at the 16th-century palace, once home to King Henry VIII.
Security staff heard alarms ringing near an exhibition hall, indicating fire doors had been opened. But on investigation they found the doors closed.
Perplexed, they examined CCTV footage, and that is when it got spooky.
The cameras showed the heavy doors popping open but no one there. Then, suddenly, the long- coated figure appeared and slammed the doors shut.
The guards were told the same thing happened at the same time - about 1pm - the day before.
To add to the mystery, the doors also flew open at the same time the very next day. But the ghostly figure has been spotted only once.
The suspected spook has not just been sighted by CCTV. Australian tourists also claim to have seen a ghost near the exhibition area. The palace, in West London, has ruled out its guides as suspects because they do not enter that part of the building.
Psychologist Dr Richard Wiseman said the spectre, nicknamed Skeletor, might prove to be a significant discovery.
'It could be the best ghost sighting ever,' he said. 'I haven't seen anything that would match that at all.'

HENRY AND A HISTORY OF HAUNTING

This is London

19 December 2003

• CATHERINE HOWARD

The best known haunting at Hampton Court is by Catherine Howard, Henry VIII's fifth wife.

Charged with adultery in 1541 and placed under house arrest, she broke free from her guards and ran to her husband to plead for her life. The guards dragged her back and she was executed. To this day, it is claimed, a woman in white can be seen floating down the Haunted Gallery.

• JANE SEYMOUR

Henry VIII's third wife, who died in childbirth in 1537, is said to walk through the cobbled courtyard carrying a lighted taper.

• LADY IN GREY

Sibell Penn was nurse to Prince Edward, Henry's only son. She died in 1562 and was buried in Hampton Church. When the church was pulled down in 1829 her remains were disturbed and it is said she returned to the rooms she once lived in.

• THE WOLSEY CLOSET

The room has a 'strange atmosphere'. A phantom dog has been seen and heard here on more than one occasion.

CNN NEWS REPORT

Palace 'ghost' caught on camera Friday, December 19, 2003 Posted: 1:54 PM EST (1854 GMT)

LONDON, England (AP) -- Are there ghostly goings-on at Henry VIII's palace, or is that hazy image of a fellow in fancy robes just a bit of Christmas cheer?

Closed-circuit security cameras at Hampton Court Palace, the huge Tudor castle outside London, seem to have snagged an ethereal visitor. Could it be a ghost?

"We're baffled too -- it's not a joke, we haven't manufactured it," said Vikki Wood, a Hampton Court spokeswoman, when asked if the photo the palace released was a Christmas hoax. "We genuinely don't know who it is or what it is."

Wood said security guards had seen the figure in closed-circuit television footage after checking it to see who kept leaving open one of the palace's fire doors.

In the still photograph, the figure of a man in a robe-like garment is shown stepping from the shadowy doorway, one arm reaching out for the door handle.

The area around the man is somewhat blurred, and his face appears unnaturally white compared with his outstretched hand.

"It was incredibly spooky because the face just didn't look human," said James Faukes, one of the palace security guards.

"My first reaction was that someone was having a laugh, so I asked my colleagues to take a look. We spoke to our costumed guides, but they don't own a costume like that worn by the figure. It is actually quite unnerving," Faukes said.

The palace, built in 1525 on the River Thames 10 miles west of central London, is a popular tourist attraction and some of the guides wear costumes of the Tudor period.

Wood said she was hoping people would come forward with similar stories and try to explain the figure.

The palace has been the scene of many dramatic royal events, and already is supposed to have a few ghosts.

King Henry VIII's third wife, Jane Seymour, died there giving birth to a son, and her ghost is said to walk through one of the cobbled courtyards carrying a candle.

Her son, Edward, had a nurse called Sibell Penn who was buried in the palace grounds in 1562. In 1829 her tomb was disturbed by building work, and around the same time an odd whirring noise began to be heard in the southwest wing of the palace.

When workmen traced the strange sounds to a brick wall, they uncovered a small forgotten room containing an old spinning wheel, just like the one Penn used to use.

Henry's fifth wife, Catherine Howard, condemned for adultery, was held at the palace under house arrest before her execution at the Tower of London. An 1897 book about the palace says she was reportedly seen, dressed in white and floating down one of the galleries uttering unearthly shrieks.

The palace was once a prison for King Charles I, who later was beheaded, and then home to his nemesis Oliver Cromwell, who briefly ruled when Britain was for a short time a republic.

Halloween Ghost

This picture was taken on October 31st 2005.

This is my daughter, she just went to a door and got some candy and my husband snapped a pic of her. We uploaded the pictures the next night. My husband called me into the room and we saw what appears to be a mist or something in the shape of a real ghost.
Very spooky...This picture was taken with a digital camera not sure what kind but not a good one.
I have never seen anything like this in any of my other pictures.

The night was very clear and warm, not common for Halloween where we live as its usally freezing or raining. No one was smoking either

I have no idea who or what it could be.. I just thought it was cool...

Great Ocean Road

Submitted by: Andrew and Lucy Hayhurst

We had been on a year long trip of Australia. We started in Sydney but when we got the news that Andy's grandma had passed away back home in Littleborough, England we decided to hit the road. So bought a 1982 Toyota Hi-ace Camper Van .

It started when our van kept breaking down as soon as we reached a town after being on the raod all day. We thought it was just a coincidence but when drove past a little town called Iron Knob Sout Australia ( just at start of the Nullarbor, a 2000 km stretch of road with not much at all along the way) our van started to shudder, we thought it was going to break down but the van kept going. We stopped off three nights before reaching Norseman campsite. We pulled into the car park and the van just conked out, not starting all night till the AAA guys turned up next day.
After this the van broke down several times on the way up to Darwin, each time we were actually in the town with a garage. As this happened so many times we where convinced someone was watching over us. We thought it might be Andy's grandma and maybe mine too, who passed away 3 years before.
We took this picture on The Great Ocean Road between Melbourne and Adelaide. We used a Kodak 3.5 megapixel camera with no flash and there were no other people around at the time.
The picture is of a Koala and we did take several more pictures, but only this one turned out with what looks like two (maybe three) skinny figures (both our grandparents died of cancer so where both quite frail).
Even though the picture looks quite scary we would love to believe that they were in fact our Guardian Angels.

Grandfathers Ghost?

This is a picture of my two sons taken last summer (yes they have diapers on their heads). Notice the white mist that seems to be moving through the picture?.

My husbands grandfather used to live in the apartment we live in now. Three days after he died my husbands uncle and aunt were sleeping in his apartment. His aunt woke up early in the morning and watched in horror as my husband's dead grandfather walked across the room and looked out the window (something he did often) and then disappeared. She, of course, was extremely shaken up. I'd like to believe the picture captured my son's great grandfather enjoying their company.

Grand Caverns

This is a very dark picture taken from a palmcorder with digital still camera.

My husband and I were coming back from his grandmothers funeral in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
On the way home to Delaware we decided to stop at the Grand Caverns in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. I took over a hundred of pictures. I didn't notice anything strange, I didn't feel creepy or anything like that.
When we got home later that night, I started to download the photos to my PC. My sister-in-law and husband, came by to see the pictures we took (they were also at the caverns). I was about to delete it because it was too dark. I took a double look and noticed what to me looked like a face and body on the left. (You really have to look at it. In the middle of the photo it looks like a big dark foot in the middle. Then you look to the left.) I sent it to my dad without telling him what I was sending and he said he saw a man that looked like beetlejuice, lol. I showed a friend and she said looks like a woman holding a baby and if you look between them it looks like a creature of some sort. I haven't heard of any hauntings going on there.

I tried to do some research on the Internet about the place to see if anyone else has pictures. so far I have got nothing. All I know is that the Grand Caverns has been open since 1806 During the Civil War, and the Valley Campaign. The cave was visited by both the Confederate and Union Soldiers.

This picture was taken April 28, 2002.

Thanks,

Ghostly Van Photo

Submitted by: Daniel Mainoo
From: Manchester, UK

The photo was taken by my boss before I started work here. The image was taken with a digital camera, the weather was overcast, the file is dated august 2004.

The effect which draws attention is obviously the cloudy spectre accross the entire photo, especially in the top right hand corner of the the picture.

I came accross this photo when I was scrolling through our work portfolio of van singing jobs in the Dukenfield area. We take pictures to show new potential clients what we can do for them. Dukenfield has always had rumours of ghostly happenings.
This image has not been played with but I guess everbody sais that.

Ghostly Reflection

The first site to ever show this weird photo. As you can see it's now featured EVERYWHERE. But we were the first to ever show it. I still have the original digital image from almost 10 years ago.

The photo was obviously taken of a child in the back of a car, but note the strange reflection in the opposite window. If it is of the camera man then why is he wearing a sheet or a white gown over himself? Wouldn't he scare the child if he did cover himself with a sheet?
You can ask yourself many questions by looking at this photo.

So what do you think it is?

We're not sure what exactly is going on here, the reflection could be a number of things, but it still makes for a creepy photo.

GHOST FACES IN FRONT OF MY WINDOW

This is a photo I took 10 minutes later, there was no more fog or smoke in front of my window.

Hi, my Name is Gernot Hirth, I live in Austria, so please excuse me if my English is not so perfect.

This happened to me 4 months ago, in December 2002. That afternoon some friends and I were sitting in my living room and we were talking about the Occult. I saw a dream catcher hanging on the wall and I said that I don't believe in such things. I also said that dream catchers have no might to catch bad dreams.

OK maybe that was a mistake.

That night, it was about 01:15 (Europe) and my girlfriend needed to use the toilet. I woke up and got out of the bed. I really don't know why, but suddenly came this strange idea in my head. I got up, grabbed my Digital Camera and went to the Window. The idea was to photograph the "Ennsleite" (thats a part of the town I live in) at night. You will see on the Photos a bit of light in the background. Thats the Ennsleite.

Well ok, I opened the Window, it was cold and a normal, very quiet night. I pointed the camera to the Ennsleite, which is about 1 mile away. The flash on the camera came out, and I swear, just for the time the flash was there, I could see a vortex just in front of my window.
A very strange feeling came over me, I quickly took another photo, and there was the vortex again when the flash came out of the digital camera.

I quickly closed the Window.

I looked at the photos, the vortex of the first photo was very strange. I loaded it on to the computer and turned the photo counter clockwise. I really could not belive what I saw!

The vortex built a large face looking (as I think) angry at me. My body started to shake and I was very frightened.

Then I took a look at the second photo, and I did not need to turn it. As you will see below there is a part in the vortex, which is not vortex! There is a smaller face but sharper.

My Girlfriend and I had some problems with sleeping after we saw that.

The next morning I remembered what I was saying about Dream catchers and the Occult. Well I am frightened of that until today. I will never forget that. I think it was just the "Answer" for what I said about the Occult.

Ghost Dog

Close up of ghost dog in truck

"This photo was taken in front of my childhood home in the summer of 1966. It was taken by my then seven year old brother with a very inexpensive Diana camera using 120 film.

In the photo my older brother is holding our kitten with our fathers truck in the background. As children, we never noticed anything unusual about the image. It was put away in a drawer with dozens of other snapshots and forgotten.

Almost 20 years later my brother (the one that took it) and our friend who grew up across the street from us were looking at a stack of photos reminiscing. Our friend asked "Who's dog is in the truck?". The problem was we didn't have a dog at that time, and the only two dogs we did have while growing up were both fawn colored boxers. None of us recall a white dog in our neighborhood. Also, we were not allowed to play in the truck and certainly wouldn't have let a strange dog inside it.

The strangest part of this is that the dog is transparent - the rear window can be seen through the dog's head. We asked my mother (our father had died years earlier) about the dog. She remembers that they bought the truck from a chicken rancher who had a large English sheepdog type of dog.

The dog is obviously looking at the boy holding the kitten with a great deal of intrest, just as a "real" dog would. This image is so clear that even very small children notice it without prompting. Also please note that the black circle around the dog's eye is the side mirror on the truck.

I hope you find this interesting, it still gives me chills up my spine after all these years".

Gatlinburg Ghost

My name is Lisa Hott. I took this picture on vacation in Gatlinburg, Tennessee while my husband and I were on a Ghost tour.
The picture is a window of a church that is supposedly haunted.
The weather was chilly and clear, it was taken November 25, 2005. There wasn't anyone standing near us, we made sure to be standing apart from everyone else while taking photos. I was pointing the camera upwards to see if I could get a picture of the ghost that is supposed to put in an appearance in this window. I used a digital camera. I did feel a chill other than the cold weather when I took this picture. At first we thought it was my breath that we caught a picture of, until we realized it wasn't cold enough for our breath to be seen.

Figure In The Fog

close up of figure

My girlfriend Audrey took this photo.
It was late July and it never gets foggy here! We went on a hiking trip and took our cameras to take pictures with. And she said "wow this looks so cool" so she took this picture of the trees and it turned out like this.

It was so freaky when we developed it. The person just standing by the tree had this hood on and kind of flowing robes. I swear we did NOT SEE ANYTHING WHEN WE TOOK THE PICTURE!.

We spent the night in a tent about 100 yards away from here because it was flat compared to the area around it which was all hills etc. We heard whispering at midnight, only we thought it was each other trying to scare us or something, but it was not.

In the morning we were packing up and it was really early because we had to get going, we suddenly got super cold. It was July too, and it was so weird!

Farnsworth House, Sarah Black Room - Figure in Window

Submitted by: Michael Pietruczenia
Location: USA

The following photo is from Gettysburg, PA.
This one is probaly one of the best ones I have. It was taken out front of the Farnsworth House in Gettysburg, PA, more specifically, room that the window is apart of is known as the Sarah Black room, and is supposedly the most haunted room at this bed and breakfast.

I took this around 10 am. I had been doing an investigation of the house that weekend and hadn't got too many pictures. I had some good EMF readings, but no real concrete evidence. So as I was about to leave and I just started taking random pictures of the house. Figuring that I was about to leave 'what the heck' I might as well.

The picture is what I noticed when I got home and loaded the pictures onto my computer.

Similar sightings have been seen at this same window.

Face on the Wall

Hi , My name is Gary Martin ,

I took these 2 pics myself.
I live in Northern California , U.S.A. I used a sony 5 megapixel digital camera to take the pics. The pics were taken on Wednesday, June 21, 2006,at 5:34:42 PM also it was an overcast cloudy day.

I think its a face that appeared on my wall for only about a minute, then it was gone and I have lived here for over 10 years , never seeing anything like it before .
I couldn't find a cause, no reflections of light because the blinds were shut. I don't know what it was.

Face in the Fire, Australia

Submitted by: Lachlan D, 13 yrs old

Location: South West Queensland, Australia

Camera: Hewlett Packard Photo Smart 215

Info: Normal day in the afternoon. Dad was burning off a bit of overgrown grass in the backyard, Lachy just took the picture because he liked the look of the flames. A week later when we loaded it onto the computer, we were amazed to find that a face had shown up in the photo. We still have the original on the camera, to prove it has not been modified in any way. Since then we've had quite a few psychics look at it and they think it's an Aboriginal Guardian.

Eltham Victoria - strange photos

These photos were taken at Eltham, Victoria, Australia by Lisa Gibbs who has reported many strange events within and outside this house. The house was built in the 1930's.

Lisa has reported strange drawings on the walls of their house, missing items and has felt someone grab her back while outside.

These photos appear to have an ectoplasmic like substance on them along with a glowing white orb. The orb photo was taken on a completely different day to the two other photos - all photos were taken with an SLR non-digital camera.

Elkhorn Image Captured on Film

Description & Date: In May of 1998, I was commissioned to photograph what remained of the Elkhorn Mill that processed precious metal ores around the turn of the 20th century. It was once the largest timber frame building in the state of Montana. The company that commissioned me, used the photographs to promote their business of architectural salvaged timbers. The photograph was taken with Hasselblad camera with 50mm distagon lens on tri - x professional black & white film. The photo was taken from the interior of the dilapidated mill toward the ghost town of Coolidge, MT. There was no glass left in the windows to cast a reflection. The film was processed in D-76 black & white developer at 70 degrees for 9 minutes. As I was printing the proofs, the hair on the back of my neck stood up as the image appeared on the photographic paper. I checked the negative to make sure the image existed and then I immediately left my studio until the following morning. Location: Big Hole Valley, Near Wisdom, MT

Desoto Caverns

Story & photo submitted from: TM, Georgia, USA

We took our children to DeSoto Caverns on Saturday, 02/09/02, for a day of fun touring the caverns and such. While in the caverns I took many pictures using a Kodak DC3400 digital camera that my wife had given me for Christmas. When we were exiting the caverns I turned around and took a shot into the large main room of the caves. Although I looked at the small monitor on the camera I didn't notice anything unusual at the time.

Later that evening I downloaded the pics taken that day onto my computer. Only at this time did I notice this strange mist or 'ecto' on the last shot taken back into the caverns. At first viewing it looked like a face or something, but when I sat back and looked at the entire picture it looks like a native American standing upright. Our guide informed us that these caverns were used for centuries by native Americans for living areas and they also used areas in them for burial grounds.

We were shown where one such burial site was once at. She told us that at some point in the past some modern day native Americans were taking the tour and objected to the displaying of their ancestors' bones like that. They somehow obtained permission to come in and remove the remains and then they took them somewhere else in the caverns and re-interred them.

No one other than those who did this know where they were re-interred. The caverns were also used as a 'speakeasy' during the early 20th century during the Prohibition era in the U.S. Supposedly others died here then as well. There was one other grave that we were shown. It was of a 'white' man who lived during the time that the Indians used the caverns. He supposedly came into the caverns and carved his name and the date, some time back in the 1700's, onto this very large slab of stone. He was caught by the native Americans and scalped and killed for desecrating their area and was supposedly buried beside the stone slab which still shows his name and the date. I have no idea as to what this is on this picture. There was nothing visible to the naked eye when I took this shot, other than the rock formations and such. The temperature was around 55 to 60 degrees both inside and out. The weather was clear, no precipitation.
